Blossoms In The Snow (Part 1)

By Jasjit Purewal - 6:40 PM Sunday 16 December 2007

images.jpg

Recently an event in my life started me contemplating compassion and this phrase popped into my mind- blossoms in the snow! The image was apt, complete and lyrical enough to embrace a state which is as rare as it is beautiful, as precious as it seems to defy the laws of samsara.

Soaring, Searching the 'Glass Ceiling' by Princess Baatcheet

By Diary of A Young Metro Woman - 11:22 AM Friday 23 November 2007

There is a very old adage, “Being a woman in a man’s world”. For the longest time I couldn't figure out whether it was a derogatory statement or a compliment to women. But now I know that what it actually means is that women are just contract workers in an establishment run and managed by men.

The billionaires

By Aachi Mithin - 10:41 AM Tuesday 20 November 2007

"Aren't you going?" I asked incredulously.

" No," my friend replied.

" But you worship him as God. You should be visiting him on his birthday celebrations" I persisted.

"There will be tremendous rush. It is not worth it." he replied again.

"But isnt that the test of devotion?" I queried.

"Perhaps..." was my friend's noncommital reply.

Saawariya- Two thumbs up :)

By Aachi Mithin - 2:03 AM Sunday 11 November 2007

You might wonder what a die hard Shah Rukh Fan like me is doing by writing a review of Saawariya and not Om Shanti Om,...for doesnt it mean that I ended up watching the former first?

Yes it does.

And I have my reasons.

'Reason' would be more appropriate.

Bhai Nei - Part Two by Princess Baatcheet

By Diary of A Young Metro Woman - 10:52 AM Thursday 13 September 2007

Spread the thread of love

I asked several people who don’t have a brother, what Rakhi meant to them. Someone said she always tied a Rakhi to her father cause she was under his protection. Some other stories actually revealed that Rakhi was being totally molded and used as a social tool to get a lot of things; favors, gifts or even liberty.

“Bhai nei” -- Part one by Princess Baatcheet

By Diary of A Young Metro Woman - 2:51 PM Thursday 30 August 2007

rakhi.jpg

Rakhi is a festival for brothers & sisters. It’s always been tough to explain this festival to my foreign friends, as they cant understand the dependance on brothers or the value of them in a society like ours which deifies the male child. Rakhi celebrators are a close knit group and at the time of Rakhi North India seems to get divided between those who belong to that group and those who don't. Entry to the club is by birth. Not mine - being a girl - but the birth of a son.

The myth of virginity

By IdeaSmith - 2:44 PM Monday 30 July 2007

The thing that bothers me is that people confuse virginity with purity and use the first to prove the second. Please, people, let's get this straight: Virginity is physical, purity is spiritual.

The green-eyed scapegoat

By IdeaSmith - 4:46 PM Tuesday 17 July 2007

I've thought long and hard about this and find that I have almost nothing to say about this that hasn't already been said before. And yet, I write about it...it seems imperative somehow. In a blog about men and women and shifting gender roles and relationships, how can the issue of jealousy not raise its hypnotic, mercurial head?
