A deeper perspective

"Anand woke up early the next day morning. He looked at his watch. It was half past three in the morning. He got up and went to the bathroom. He splashed some cold water on his face and slowly came out of the room. The sky outside was still dark. He made his way to the terrace. Mangalore was blessed with very little light pollution and so the sky was very clear and the stars were very bright and pleasing. Anand cocked his head up and watched the sky. The stars were myriad and beautiful and were twinkling with joy. He could see that the brightest star was not twinkling and that was because it was not a star. It was a planet, the planet Venus, and the morning star. The constellations were a little hard to discern, as he did not know them accurately. But as kept on gazing into the sky the words that the monk had uttered came back to Anand’s mind.
The universe is really very large. Infinite, perhaps lost to the vision of finite. The humongous galaxies, the great distances of travel between heavenly bodies, the utter futility of man to reach even the ends of the solar system in his life time made him sad. Will it ever happen that one day we would travel to the stars, he wondered. Earth is really a speck of dust. Then who was he? Who were the people around him? What made them go about their lives unmindful of this great mystery? Will it ever be possible that true intuition and self-discovery dawn amongst these six billion humans on the planet? Isn’t all existence futile without the knowledge about the origin of being? Anand began to understand what the monk meant when he mentioned the universe and an isolated earth. You would not search for infinity if you were not limited. Isolation in space, just like in meditation was necessary. Anand looked up at the sky again.
A streak of light suddenly raced past the sky for a fleeting moment. It was a meteor; more commonly called the shooting star. It had emerged from behind a small cloud and disappeared after a trail of a few seconds. When it appeared Anand had a chance to appreciate the depth of space, even though just for a moment. The solitary white cloud, the shooting star and the great black beyond embroidered with stars. It was awe-inspiring, this infinity.
He felt that space was a deep hole and he was watching into the deep hole like boy peeking into a well from the small wall around it. In the well he could have seen his reflection perhaps, but here in the hole of infinite space his image was a distorted image fleeced of all individuality. His name appeared superfluous, his existence a practical joke, his very being a mistake and a burden of chance. The well of space gave back an image of confusion, of isolation, of angst. The stars and the blackness mocked his knowledge.
Who am I? What is the purpose of life? Who made me? What is my relationship with the
stars?
A wave of fear crept up in him. His heartbeat intensified. He could feel small beads of perspiration erupt on his forehead. He clutched the ends of the parapet to console himself. The feel of cement was reassuring but fleeting. The moment he looked up again he felt intimidated by the great beyond. It was as if it was mocking him. Simultaneously awe-inspiring and terrifying to mortal imagination, the outer space began to scare Anand as nothing ever did previously. A pain of helpless will began to rise in his veins. He let go off the parapet. He stumbled away from the edge of the terrace. He felt wobbly. He couldn’t control the feeling of shivering rising up in him. Visions of galaxies began to float in his head. They moved and danced as demons of the nether world. A bout of uncontrollable shivering started in him. He shivered violently. A blast of light assailed his consciousness and he felt dazed for a while. His head buzzed with an intense vibration and suddenly a mist came before his eyes and Anand blacked out."
some of my thoughts which I used to pen down... actually a part of a novel that I never finished about Love, Sex, and something faster than the speed of light in a humungous Universe.
to be continued...
lots of love

Aachi! I too blacked out with anticipation by the end of Anands extraordinary experience :)
I don't know which to praise first. You're writing style or the sensitivity with which you have been able to pen down Anands emotional upheavel.
As I put myself in Anands place I realised that it is our inability to feel our bodies as being part of the movement that all the galaxial bodies are also involved in that we feel the emptiness. We feel that everything else besides us is infinite and only we are finite.

Dear Aachi
Wonderful piece of writing.Man's struggle(not necessarily at a conscious level) with the finite and the infinite is I guess the core reason for his/her schizophrenia. You wove this story beautifully and I'm waiting eagerly for the next part. Lots of love
Chaitali, an interesting point about the bodies in the galaxy and how we dont perceive ourselves to move in unison with them. The whirling dervishes in Sufism are a great example towards this point. They whirl whilst reciting prayers, the belief being that the entire universe whirls and you can connect to its energy/power by doing the same.

Wow! Aachi that was a real Supernova blast! I don't know about Anand but that was quite an experience I had just reading the description of Anand's emotions. Sahi hain. Iss vishaal aasmaan aur usse se bhi age uss vishaal shunyata ke agey hum kaun hain? Shayad ek aur choti si pranee jo ki iss mahaan leela ka ek hissa hain. Jo iss universe aur uske doosre planets, stars, moon, sun etc ke saath saath chal rahin hain.
Very well penned down of such intense and deep feelings and emotions. I have also read your earlier posts Hole of fear. Fascinating! Then the Succubus was also very chilling. Will you be writing the second part soon or, as I understand by the comments on it have the dream(s) been resolved so part II no longer holds any importance (which is good because not having such scary dreams mun aur tan ki sehat key liye achchi hain :) It's good for the health of once mind and body :)

Dear Jasjit,
i had a dream just before i got up today. i think i understand what it means. but would surely love your input. i dreamt that i was showing off my art to an expert. there is a single piece of canvas which has a beautiful painting. the art expert is pleased when suddenly the painting shakes and in its place is another beautiful art. we both are surprised and now shake the canvas again...and lo! there is another beautiful painting on the canvas now...it happens for sometime when suddenly the canvas becomes blank...no painting no color. no matter how much we shake the canvas is colorless. we try to wring the canvas but are met only with a little color liquid.
what does this mean?
:)
Dear Simran,
you are right. after the discussions in the comments section of Succubus, i felt there was no need for another part. but actually scary dreams are really better in one sense for they help in releasing toxic emotions and also in understanding ones own state of mind.
:)
Dear Ananya,
thanks a lot. i will be posting another little Anand's discoveries soon. :)
lots of love

Dear Aachi
You are on a roll my friend as far as prophetic and 'message' based dreams are concerned lol. Here's my interpretation. shaking brings through the undiscovered layers of beauty that are latent within your eye and yet to be expressed/seen by you. Except that you are being told at the outset that lest you limit your endeavour/search to the next great masterpiece the canvas beneath it all is 'shunnyata' the nothingness from which all beauty emanates. Integrate the paradox and perhaps seek the ultimate state with ardour (for all dreams are profound and very pointed in your case) and then all will be like it should- you will be source, the fountainhead of eternal beauty! What joyous blessings abound for you my friend.
Just want to add that often if a roll of dreams begin to surface they point to the power of the time/forces of awakening. Do not tarry and let the 'everything will happen by itself' philosophy derail you from the great homecoming which is imminent.
much love

Dear Aachi
I see a wonderful and esoteric non-fictional work emerging in a skillful fictional form right here, right before our eyes, on this very blog as your fascinating novel begins to take shape. 'You would not search for infinity if you were not limited'...great metaphysical knitting of illusion and reality here. Look forward to reading the whole novel as your share it with us chapter by chapter. :)))))
Remember I once quoted a line (my favourite) from Gurbaani here- jo brahmandey sohi pindey- that which lies in the vast universe mirrors exactly that which lies within your body. This line became so pivotal for me because even as a young child (not very adept then at understanding much Gurbaani at all) many lines would just jump up and enter my head where they would reel on for days until the meaning would begin to dawn. This one however was beyond all comprehension and thus facsinated me well into adulthood. I often spoke of it to scholars and mystics that I met through my father. And yet their answer never crossed over into trust, understanding or shall I just say satisfaction. Until...and then I knew finally not just what it meant but why it was the ultimate koan to search for the Self.
Lovely post and thank You for bringing back such precious memories. Awaiting...
