Karma Is Just Your Energy Field (Conclusion)

By Jasjit Purewal - 9:54 PM Saturday 29 April 2006

As I promised in the first half of this post I’m going to share scientific data/research which details the existence of the human energy field and its composition. Today there are many engaged in this cutting edge work but I have chosen Dr Valerie Hunt’s work to showcase the extraordinary convergence of Vedic principles and scientific proof. Globally known for her pioneering research in human energy fields, she has a tremendously creative and meticulous approach, documented in a highly readable book called ‘Infinite Mind: Science of Human Vibrations of Consciousness’. I have selected a few key passages here of her work.

“Although we cannot explain life, we do know that electrical activity is essential for life. Most medical and biological research has tried to explain life in terms of gross measures such as heart, muscle and nerve electricity. But with recent discoveries that all cells, even subatomic particles, contain electrical elements there is a growing understanding that life is electromagnetic and cannot be explained by mechanical or biochemical means.

The human body has two primary electrical systems. One is the well-known alternating electric current of the nervous system. The other is the newly discovered electromagnetic system, probably emanating from atoms and cells. This energy has been called an aura though I prefer to call it an energy field. We discovered that this energy field is unique. It is continuous while all other body electrical recordings of heart, brain and muscle are on-off signals: a muscle contraction is followed by a muscle relaxation; a heart beat followed by a quiet rest period etc.

The pool of electromagnetic energy around an object or a person allows energy exchange. This corona, invisible to most, is seen at times like a halo or light-coloured mist around a living body. Although composed of the same electrons as inert substances, the human field absorbs and throws off energy dynamically. It interacts with and influences matter whereas fields associated with inert matter react passively. Many names have been associated with this human energy: chi, life force, prana and aura.

Beyond the electrical frequencies of muscle, brain and heart, there is another energy field, smaller in amplitude and higher in frequency. This electromagnetic energy is eight to ten times faster than the other biological electricity sampled from the body’s surface and about one-half to one–third as strong as the millivoltage of a resting muscle. While many researchers have studied low biological frequencies (ELF) and the magnetic current associated with healing, tissue health and disease, extremely high biological frequency (EHF) electrical currents associated with mind phenomena and human consciousness, was first researched in my laboratory at UCLA.

We observed that before the brain wave was activated and before stimuli altered the heart rate, blood pressure or breathing, the energy field around the person had already responded. This led us to postulate that a person’s primary response in his world takes place first in the auric field, not in the sensory nerves, nor in the brain. We discovered that the energy field sometimes responded even when the person experienced no conscious sensation. . Even more dramatic was our finding that the field responded before there was any increased activity in the brain, the circulation and sometimes even when the stimulus was too weak to activate the nervous system.
Primary studies with hands-on healers verified the uniqueness of the transaction between healer and healee. For example, healers who specialized in treating pain and quieting hypertension had strong blue-white-violet fields while healing. Healers working at improving hypo diseases such as hypoglycaemia and hypothyroidism created a strong red-amber-orange field. Red was dominant with healers working on muscle bone and nerves. Some people with barrier diseases, such as multiple sclerosis and Lou Gehrig’s disease, seemed to have such a rigid field that they were unable to receive any healing energy. We observed that a transaction between the healer and healee field was essential. When experienced healers finished their sessions, we saw that the two fields became identical.

However we also saw that proximity of two fields did not guarantee a transaction. Some people did not transact well through their fields and sometimes two fields remained totally separate, retaining their individual patterns even when the people were in close proximity. In others, we found one field totally dominated the other, that is one changed while the other did not- common with successful healing.

In another experiment we altered the electromagnetic field of a room without changing its gravitational force or oxygen content. Placing people in this room we discovered, when the electrical aspect of the atmosphere in the room was withdrawn the auric field became disorganized, scattered and incoherent. Sensory feedback became so impaired that subjects became totally unaware of the location of their bodies in space. With the electromagnetism depleted in the room, the only electrical energy available to the subjects, was each other’s fields. As they drew upon each other’s energy fields, both fields weakened. At this stage disorganization in both fields increased and people burst into tears and sobbed -an experience unlike anything they had experienced. Although they reported that they were not sad, their bodies responded as if they were threatened. When the electrical field was increased in the room beyond its usual level, their auric fields became normal, thinking became clear and they reported an expansion in consciousness. Their auras became light in colour with increased white vibrations.

To explore some other examples of communication through fields. Vibrations of 16000, 17000 or 18000 cycles per second are frequencies which the human ear can detect if the amplitude is sufficiently great. Above these frequencies, we can only experience through the field but cannot hear through the ear. However animals hear frequencies of a much higher range since the field is their principal mode of communication. They smell and hear with senses which are far more acute and therefore are more aware of vibrational differences. For example, camels’ smell a human’s breath to make judgements, while cats gravitate to persons’ with higher vibratory fields. Jacques Cousteau, the world famous marine biologist, had reported that the same person was attacked by sharks off the beach in Australia and again in France. I speculate that at the time of the attack the person is carrying either a dominant colour, a frequency pattern of red/orange or a fear reaction, either of which could stimulate sharks. Marine researchers show that dolphins and sharks respond to frequencies upto 20,000 cycles per second, the same range recorded for human beings.

This idea of attraction and repulsion as a field communication phenomenon, emerged when I observed peddlers and hucksters selling trinkets at tourist sites around the world. If I am on tour with others, I am the one they do not haggle. Once friends who noticed this and were exasperated at being pursued, asked me how I protected myself. I told them that these men annoy me and probably my field turns aggressively red and my thoughts transmit their anger. That night, I gave my friends lessons in projecting colour and thought through their fields. It worked wonders for them all except for one woman who said she couldn’t get angry, it wasn’t spiritual. Instead of changing her mind we would encircle her field every time we encountered peddlers and she was safe.

I have assisted a number of women, who have been raped or sexually assaulted to relieve their fears by opening their mind-fields to their emotions. In every instance at the time of the attack, I found their emotional field had been weak and passive; it also carried intense fear of their own anger and aggression. Rapists tell us, that they intuitively know which women are easy targets. They describe them as passive and fearful of their own emotions- the same pattern that I discovered in the victims. If a woman is emotionally free to express powerful emotions such as rage, assailants will be shocked and frightened as are all people when they encounter a raw emotional display.

Unfortunately, we have accepted the limitations of mind and body set forth by psychology, physiology and medicine and by experience we have innately confirmed these norms of human capacity. Let us not confuse the limitations of material flesh with the infinite aspects of the mind. Conscious transferring and decoding of thought –what has occurred, what occurs and what is to occur, I believe is the capacity of all people who choose to be truly human. Such an explanation of the creative nature of man describes his ascent, his evolution.”

I have only selected bits from a work which is extensive, full of documented data and comprehensive testing. A prolific writer and researcher Dr Hunt is just one of the many who have entered the realm of the Infinite Mind and its very unambiguous arrangement within the Universe. For the purposes of this discussion, it is enough to know that the world of science has begun to unravel the world of the spirit and the conclusions are setting the frontier for human evolution at a totally different scale. The echoes of ancient Indian wisdom, can not only be heard within this new time/space of parameters, but more crucially it helps free them from the fog of faith and belief and raises it to palpable reality. Karma then is no longer the theme song of some obdurate school, but a skin sister of the more vibrant, definable phenomena of our energy fields bringing home the truth of causality not just as a random, witless occurrence but one which clearly hands you the key to your destiny. Sewing, if you will, centuries of divide between the mind people and the faith people to bring home the truth that man’s ultimate power lies within his/her own centre. Tossing you at a go, amidst the great adventure of knowing that you are not mere creation but also creator. Resonant as a new age of consciousness, whose seeds can truly be traced to that ancient and curious Vedic prophecy,’Aham Brahmasmi’- I Am Brahma.

Jasjit this is utterly fascinating. Thanks so much for sharing this. I'm going to try and lay my hands on this book. She sounds like a fascinating woman. I have to say that since I have started reading this blog I am just feeling so mentally stimulated and alive. Not only is the content so interesting but the perspectives that all of you bring to it are also just so unique and special. Thank you to all the blog contributors for that.

I found the bit about rapists and victims particularly fascinating. If it is infact our own energy which is giving off signals to be violated then surely that means that self defense needs to be looked at in a totally different light. It is very exciting to know that we are actually so much in control of our circumstances and this can be and is being proved scientifically as well. Great piece.

jasjit, excellent article. i hope what i am going to write below complements it in some way. of course yours is based on well rsearched and well established science and in comparasion mine may be what now-a-days hard-nosed rationalists/ scientists call pseudo science. yet there somewhere in it may lie the sparks of the next age science.

dividing our life into four phases of childhood, youth, middle age and old age,

our karma in childhood is to first fall into the trap of gravity in various ways and then grow/rise up opposite to it, in the process mastering it due to our present level of life;

our karma in youth is to first fall into the trap of electromagnetic forces or the forces of attractions and repulsions or of emotions, and then grow/rise above them, in the process mastering them due to our present level of life;

our karma in middle age is to first fall into the trap of strong forces, or the forces which give rise to first our "I" or ego thought and then all subsequent thoughts, rational understandings, consequent concepts etc and then grow/rise beyond them, in the process mastering them due to our present level of life;

and lastly, our karma in old age is to first fall into the trap of weak forces, or the forces of subtle attractions and repulsions, or subtle emotions in which passion sort of gives place to compassion and love towards particular persons/things gives place to love for general humanity/world etc and then grow/rise above them, in the process mastering them due to our present level of life;

to the extent we have risen above or mastered or gone beyond the forces of gravtiy, electromagnetic forces, strong forces and weak forces in this life, to that extent they will be out of our system, and with the remaining we will again come back to manifest repeating the same process again. it will go on till there is no force left to 'cover' us as souls or spirits and we will be ready to/have merged indistinguiashably into the all soul/brahama.

and yes, these forces may be said to take various forms of energy patterns.

this same process happens at the level of a grain of sand to go by william blake's line "to see the universe in a grain of sand" in one of his famous poems, at the level of an atom to go by recently published book "universe in an atom" of dalai lama, happens at the level of human beings as above and needless to say, finally happens at the level of the universe as a whole itself.

the residual karma comprises the resultant of two opposing forces working upon each other. the one which throws us from within, also called kundlini shakti - via what for human levels and human terms is called kundlini, actually our genetic make up or inner nature or really the sum total of our present or residual karma; and what otherwise is called spiral structures at the core of everything from a grain of sand to galaxies and finally the universe iself - into the trap of gravity, electromagnetic forces or emotions, strong forces or thought/concepts/word prisons etc, and the other which then reacts to it for first survival and ultimately mastery.

so really half the story of our karma - in which we react to situations - is in our hands, the other half comes from within on its own according to our residual karma.

now take the case of a girl which is raped. most probably she will be at the threshold of breaking from the second phase of emotions and entering into the third phase of ego/intellect/thought (she may be here/in this phase because of her past life evolutionary progress).

the unconscious or unknown force from within - via kundlini - will make her do actions which will attract the attention of men and consequently she will get attacked in some way or even raped. she will be humiliated, with the result that for one, her reacting energy will get concentrated/come to the fore to the maximum and for an other, getting isolated from all, she will begin to reflect about her plight (why did it happen to why, why, why, why, am I nothing?).

for all practical purposes, for me, she would have entered the era of strong forces, the forces which confine one to oneself, the forces which are the original cause of the development of ego in humans, or of first "I" thought in them and then all subsequet thoughts.

the resultant of the push from within, getting raped, reacting, reflecting will push the girl under question to a higher evolutionary ladder, with at the same time so much past karma being substracted from her being now. but what basically needs to be remembered is that all this proces is taking us on and on on our evolutionary journey.

one can ask, then why not all women get raped? the answer is: the evolution of humanity progresses at numerous places and levels. at the cutting edge of each of such small or big cycles is a few or even one people. more importantly even those few or one people may not be quite visible in this, they may just be leading the evolution at very subtle level now, at the seed level whose result in some way may become visible or manifest only after many many years.

Dear shagufta

The book is a very readable account of scientific investigation written in as lucid and as simple a manner as is possible. There is a bibliography too from where you can access many others engaged in similar work.

It is not merely rape victims but all victimization finds a trigger in our own energy field. consciously and unconsciously we set the patterns for events and experiences which come our way. Once this fact is understood and integrated, there are many exciting depths of contemplation within, which begin to reveal keys to both past and present situations and we can begin to actively change those patterns. This acceptance itself (that we carry an energy centric communication field) begins to alter our consciousness and hence everything we know and experience as life. :)

hi all, i want to add two elaborations on what i have already written above.

one may say that not only we grapple with gravity in our childhood but we experience feelings and thoughts as well, as against what i say - that we come to experience emotions in our youth and thoughts in our middle age.

in this connection i want to say that actually we go through all the four phases in each second, minute, hour, day, weak, month, year and finally the whole life but till our childhood our real focus is gravity, just as in youth it is emotions, in middle age it is thoughts and intellectual understandigns. it is like the growth of a tree. the tree grows as a whole each day, month, year and so on, yet flowers will blossom on it beyond a certain age and fruits will grow on it still beyond that age.

anyway, now the second point i want to clear is this. many people will think that if the same story goes in a grain of sand, atom, moelcuele apparently non-living things then how they fall into the trap of emotions and thoughts. do atoms/grains of sand too feel and think?

and in this regard i want to clarify that what we call emotional exchange at the level of humans is basically the name given to electromagnetic exchange which happens right from an atom onwards. what really happens is that revolving electrons or photons emitted by the atom are exchanged betwen two entities may those be atoms, grains, humans etc. in fact, as i have explained in my book photon, which travells at the speed of light, is the main carrier/manifester of the phenomenon we call love between two opposite sexes. as nothng can move beyond the speed of light in the manifest world, if love had to happen, no sooner you look in the eyes of an opposite sex member, photon at the speed of light has got exchanged between you and it does not allow you time to first 'see' what with whom you are exchanging the photon is looks like so that you can decide whether to fall in love with him/her or not precisely bcause you too at the most can see the other with the speed of light. this is the reason love is also called blind.

to cut the long story short, what goes for electromagnetic exchange in some way goes within atom, grain of sand and so on in the case of other forces, though explaining it will invovle science unnecessary at this juncture. even otherwise the above truth can be understood from the fact that this process of going through four phases began right from the beginning of the universe when there were no human beings yet it produced human beings and all other species through it.

Note: i have to say what i know even though it has not come in the main stream of knowledge as of now, and it may seem overly difficult to some here, while on the other hand, they may feel obliged to respond to the post in some way lest i should mind. in this connection i am here to express my thanks and say that anybody can ignore the post without my minding in anyway or pass by giving just a smiley lol.

Harb

It not just compliments my post but elaborates the metaphysical causality behind all that we struggle with as illusion and reality.

However while both what I write and what you add offers a plausible and efficacious model of reality its the many subtle threads within, which make up individual experiences, expand the spectrum of probability infinitely within infinity which becomes near impossible to articulate or express. I often feel that as the mind moves to quantum levels of travel/connectivity/comprehension I find that the ardour and wonder that I used to experience earlier at such moments is now being replaced by an awesome silence where I lose all desire to share or even begin to formulate a bridge of communication. Khed ainee nirali tey vishall hai, usdi khubsoorati kadi kadi tey shool vangu chubdi hai tey us waqt lagda hai ki yaan tey sajdey vich besudh ho jayeey yann phir aus ghadi fanaa ho jaiyeey. Mukan eye sareay jhameley jaanan tey bujhan dey. Sochdi haan us veley da ekakipan kina vachitar hai. Mitha vi bada tey chubda vi hai. Saarey shabdh, vichaar ghul key nishabad ho jaandey ney. I guess having you at this blog is another wonder, to share the unspoken and to know all is known and understood often without the attempt. :)

Great post Jasjit. Harb perhaps this is a foolish question but are you saying that an unawakened Kundalini is actually a gravitational force which holds the sum of all karmic energies?

jasjit, seems there is some residual give and take with you people, because i myself do not want to share too oten but yet end up sharing rather long posts.

even my coming back here after a long time involved an interesting coincidence. contrary to what it may have looked apparently, i came to see this blog after a long time on the very day you posted a welcome to bloggers including sundar and me because of holi or something. needless to say the gesture melted me and true to poet mohan singh's song about the punjabis "pyar naal eh karan gulami..." i came back to accept gulami lol. it is an other matter though, that thanks to perhaps sant ji, by then i had also gone beyond both gulami and azadi lol.

anyway, anusheh, how could a question from you could be foolish? have you forgotten what i wrote about your mesmerizing posts? like them any question from you, to me, is full of highest intelligence. it is quite an other matter that i may not be able to reply to them, specially to your posts on that detail level, more so as i am now not very much in touch with the latest in books on the subjects you write about. really sometimes it becomes very difficult for me to extend those "dhai akhshar.." to make a quite lengthy reply to some posts here.

now to your question, first, there is no difference in my mind in the unawakened and awakened kundlini. i see the whole as one process beyond a certain phase of which perhaps the kundlini begins to work apparently in some other way (a bit conscious way?)and so begins to be called awakened.

second, i think the unawakened kundlini contains in it the sum-total of all the forces and not just gravity, just as an 'unawakened' seed contains in it not only the potential of creating a tree's stem and main branches (solid physical structures, maninly manifestation of gravitational interactions)but flowers and ultimatly fruit as well. but perhaps you are also meaning the same thing, and so, yes, it holds the sum of all the karmic energies.

at big bang, this force which contains all the forces and later gets seprated off to four, is being called superforce by some speculative cutting edge writers...such as paul davies of the book "superforce" fame and winner of the famous Templeton Prize. then again each new entity like us individuals gets due portion of the same superforce at their own levels. at the beginning at creates big bang and sends the universe off on its 'life' course. then down many systems, the due portion of this same force sends the solar system from within a glaxy, then earth from within the sun, then species fromwithin the earth, then us individuals and so on. at the back of all is the due portion of the same one superforce. so yes, as alredy said, it contains the sum total of all the karmic energies due to that particular entity/individual under question. then from within it quantum jums to next and next phases/levels, from the smallest quantum jumps which we usually not notice to biggest ones relative to the person under question, which we take due note of and which perhap in some yoga circles is called jumping of kundlini from one chakra to the next. needless to say, it is the sum total of many many small jumps.

or just like, as per the latest discovery in progress, the stem cell contains in it material for the creation of all the subsequent cells - bone and marrow cells (gravitational interaction), blood and muscle cells (electromgnetic interactions), nerve cells (strong interactions) and perhaps cancer cells (weak interactions).

Note: i am afraid the truth at the barest base is a great bore. so i would advice you to forget all these explnations through forces and enjoy the prevailing knowledge, more so as the former is not yet established. even though the post is getting overly long, what i wrote just above again reminds me of a story told by ramana maharshi. perhaps you will enjoy:

a villager brought from somewhere a huge dog who was given a make up of a lion and who, moreover, behaved much like an actual lion. people began to gather in is house to see the "lion". just then an other villager brought from somewhere an actual lion. what startled some discernible people was that though there was a huge crowd to see the artificial lion not many people came forward to see the actual lion. so moral of the story: people find the real truth quite boring perhaps because of its being quite obvious lol.

Harb

Thank you for your loving and kind words. Your explanation makes perfect sense to me and thank you very much for it. It has deepened my understanding at one level. I also really enjoyed the story you shared about maharishi. But since i am interested in truth, please continue to bore me with it:-)

I just picked up Gopi Krishna's book on Kundalini to read.... you must know him as the man who had a frightening kundalini experience which nearly killed him...I too believe that a proper rising of kundalini must involve many many small jumps as you say. But then what happens to it that makes it rise like in the case of Gopi Krishna?

Now in my effort to understand a little better I need to ask you another question. If there is no difference between an unawakened and an awakened Kundalini then what compels it to rise. Is it just the clearing of the pathways i.e. chakras infact which keep it trapped in the mooladhara? I would like to know your thoughts on this.

LOL

Jasjit,

So many things make so much sense now. It is true that the nature of enrgy that we emit attracts similar negative/positive energy from around us.

Over the last 2 months I've been undergoing a lot of transformation. Reading your post made me look back and I realised how things have changed. Here is an example. Till two months back my car was constantly getting minor scratched/dents on all sides. I was always a careful driver. When I used to drive my dads car I had never come back with a scratch on it.

But now strange things wuold happen- like I would be standing in a fairly empty signal and some wierdo in a bike, who by the way would also be coming in low speed, would come and bang into my car. Many such small incidents kept happening. Then of course one day while Gaurav was backing the car it hit a police post and the back shield shattered and there was an irrepairable dent on the back of the car. I remember that day I was very angry over something and my ego was at its height and I had build this wall around me.

The car is fixed now (phew!)

Like I said many things have changed in me since then. And now my car hardly gets any dents or scratches :)

I guess the type of energy that I am emitting now is repelling the scratches and dents :)

The studies and the findings that Hunt has given are truly fascinating!

anusheh, good question. i do not know about gopi krishna but i can fairly guess his situation.

when you are to make a major phase change of your life, say from childhood to youth, the cell at the cutting edge of that change will have to undergo a major transformational quantum jump. the others then will follow suit but with small step by step transformations or quantum jumps.

similrly, when culture is to make a major phase change - like coming of new age - the persons to lead that change will have to undergo a major transformational quantum jump, people like jesus, mahammad, ramakrishna, gopi krishna come under this category for different cultural cycles/levels. the rest will then follow with small changes or quantum jumps to finally reach/realize that/their stage to the extent possible.

as to your second question, here is the ultimate boring answer.

the same force, now called the superforce, which forced the universe out of what scientists call 'singularity' on big bang, and then quasars out of the universe, and then pulsars out of the quasars and then galaxies out of the pulsars, and then sun out of the galaxy, and then earth out of the sun, and then... species out of the earth...and then species man out of the species...and then individuals out of the species man forces the kundlini to rise from within the individuals. it acts first anti-gravity, then anti-electromagnetic force, then anti-strong force and lastly anti-weak force. somewhere on the line perhaps people begin to call it as awakened. these are details.

in simple words, the same force which first threw the universe out of singularity through big bang, then acts through the centers of all the subsequent big or small systems and likewise throws/pushes them out. seen from deepest within that force will seem to be pushing the spiral structure at the core of the uiverse, and likewise, seen from deepest within of a man it will seem to be pushing up his kundlini... there are many dtails but pl suffice for the time being.

anusheh, just to explain the answer in an other way.

perhaps you take the unawakened and awakened kundlini like some seed which is just lying there and which has now begun to germinate? if so let us see what processes go into the germinating of the seed and how the due portion of the original superforce of the big bang comes into play here.

a seed is an entity in which both the female principle and the male principle relative to the tree under question have come together to join in some hiding enclosure (its body).

then it falls from the original tree, to the ground. there, first its whole enclosure (comprising of gross bodies covering the female principle and male principle) is made to fall away, in essence much like we are made to 'fall away' (forget our bodies)in the course of our sexual act. then comes a time when even the union of both the bodies still there in a very subtle form in a way 'dies' to itself forgets iself, loses its identity - much like we both as mind and body, male principle and female principle die to ourselves when we are dead asleep at night, or, when we both male and female get lost even as a whole during sexual orgasm.

then we, in an other way of saying it - as 'united' yet dead seed, as human beings in conjugal union yet lost in a way - open ourselves to what scientists call free energy of the earth, and which to me is nothing else but the due portion of the same original superforce which has now come to become earth's lot.

even when we are dead asleep, we go through the same process and thus receive our daily quota of the original force from the 'whole earth' and hence the whole universe.

so it is this free energy of the earth, further a part of the original superforce - which is in fact the same to which many have called god, more so as when one is connected to it or open to it one is in union with, is one with, the whole One, Universe - which compells kundlini to arise, needless to say in the seed, in which case it makes it to start germinating, and in the baby, in which case he/she begins to acquire body/grow. notice, the baby begins to make efforts to get up as soon as possible, it is because of the push of this very force through the kundlini of the baby, making in other words the kundlini to arise.

i hope i have added something....though far removed from everything hitherto you might have listened. you can at least intuite truth in what i have said if not fully understand.

Dear Harb

Thank you very much. I was just going to write and say that I didnt understand the earlier post when I saw you had posted again:-) I can now understand clearly what you are saying. I still have more questions but I will give you a break for now and also try and use my own mind to reflect on this phenomenon. But you have given me some important pointers and directions in which I shall shape my thoughts over the next few days so thank u very much for that and for the effort and care you put into these responses. They are invaluable.
