What a truly mystifying world we live in, where science, with its bedrock of ‘observable reality”, begins to stray into the waters of ‘ the world is a phantasm’, ‘ the world lies in the eye of the beholder’ and nothing is really as it seems. Maya, a simple word humming through time, summed it up for Indians many light years ago. And today humanity is wide-eyed as that same truth may be dawning through the horizons of palpable testing and scientific observation.
Author Michael Talbot in his rivetting article on 'The Universe as a Hologram' says, “Argentinian- Italian researcher, Hugo Zucarelli, recently extended the holographic model to the world of acoustic phenomena. Puzzled by the fact that the human ear can locate sound without moving direction, even when possessed with hearing in only one ear, Zucarelli discovered that holographic principles can explain this ability. He developed the technology of holophonic sound, a recording technique able to reproduce acoustic situations with an almost uncanny realism. Pribram’s belief that our brains mathematically construct ‘hard’ reality by relying on input from a frequency domain, has also received a good deal of experimental support. It seems that each of our senses is sensitive to a much broader range of frequencies than was previously suspected. Our visual systems are sensitive to sound frequencies, that our sense of smell is in part dependant on what are now called ‘osmic frequencies’ and even our cells are responsive to a broad range of frequencies. This suggests that it is only in the holographic domain of consciousness that such frequencies are sorted and divided into conventional perceptions.
But the most mind-boggling aspect of Pribram’s model is when it is placed together with Bohm’s theory. For if the concreteness of the world is but a ‘secondary reality and what is ‘there’ is actually a blur of frequencies and if the brain is also a hologram and only selects some frequencies out of this blur and mathematically translates them into sensory perceptions, what indeed is objective reality?
We are really ‘receivers’ floating through a kaleidoscopic sea of frequency and what we extract from this sea and transmogrify into physical reality is but one channel, extracted from many within the Superhologram. This striking new reality, a synthesis of Bohm and Pribram, has come to be called the holographic paradigm and although many scientists have treated it with skepticism, it has galvanized many others. A small but growing number believe, that this may be the most accurate model of reality that science has ever arrived at.
Many researchers, including Bohm and Pribram, have noted that many para-psychological phenomena have become more explainable in the holographic paradigm. For instance telepathy may just be accessing of the holographic level. In particular Grof feels that baffling phenomena experienced by individuals during altered states of consciousness make complete sense in holographic reality.
In the 1950s while conducting research on LSD as a psychotherapeutic tool, Grof discovered that a female patient became convinced she had assumed the identity of a prehistoric reptile. During her hallucination, she gave a richly detailed description of what it felt like to be encapsulated in such a body and noted that a patch of scales on the side of the head of the male of that species, were coloured. Grof was startled to find that though the woman had no knowledge of such creatures, his zoological research confirmed that in a particular species of her description, coloured areas of the head played an important role in sexual arousal. Grof found other patients regressed and identified with many species of the evolutionary tree, especially since they revealed obscure zoological details, which turned out to be accurate. Regressions into the animal kingdom were not the only puzzling psychological phenomena Grof encountered. They often tapped into a racial memory where individuals with little or no education began to give detailed descriptions of Zorastrian funerary practices or scenes from Hindu mythology.
Grof later found that therapy sessions which did not use drugs, also triggered the same range of experiences. Because the common element in such experiences appeared to be the transcending of an individual’s consciousness beyond the usual limitations of ego and /or limitations of space and time which Grof called ‘transpersonal experiences’ – what helped him later found a branch of psychology called transpersonal psychology. Grof recently noted that if the mind is actually part of a continuum, a labyrinth that is connected to every atom, organism and region in the vastness of time and space, then for it to make occasional forays into the vast labyrinth and have transpersonal experiences no longer seems strange.
Keith Floyd, a psychologist at Virginia Intermont College, added that if the concreteness of reality is but a holographic illusion, it would no longer be true to say that the brain produces consciousness. Rather, it’s consciousness that creates the appearance of the brain…as well as the body and everything else around us we interpret as physical. Such a turnabout in the way we view biological structures has caused researchers to point out, that medicine and our understanding of the healing process could also be transformed by the holographic paradigm. So if the apparent physical structure of the body is but a holographic projection of consciousness, it means that each of us is more responsible for our health than current medical wisdom allows. What we view as miraculous remissions of diseases, may in fact be due to changes in the consciousness, which in turn effects changes in the hologram of the body.
Perhaps, controversial new healing techniques such as visualization, work so well because they use the holographic domain to alter OUR ‘reality’.
This brings us to the most profound implication of the holographic paradigm for then in such a universe there are no limits to our ability to alter the fabric of reality. What we perceive as reality is merely a canvas waiting for us to draw upon it any picture we want. Anything is then possible like bending spoons with the power of the mind, for magic is our birthright no more or less miraculous than our ability to compute the reality we want when we are in our dreams. Synchronicities and meaningful coincidences then suddenly make sense and everything in reality would have to be seen as a metaphor, for even the most haphazard events would be expressing some underlying symmetry.”
Fascinating walk through time and evolution this! Eons ago, men of the spirit placed the hologram of the Universe before us, in words piled high as timeless truths, simply called - Vedas or Complete Wisdom. Believed to have been placed there for man, as a detailed blueprint, they were not attributed to any ‘writers’ but called (apaurusheya) or infinite and beyond time/man. Many footsteps later, science has begun to knock at the very same door, through a very different trail. We who live in these times, are the privileged Sakshis (witnesses) to this wonder of synchronicity.
In the faraway land of Zen, many masters used terse verse to point towards the same full moon. Culled from their unique Patriarch Buddha, they wove many holographic pictures of his mystifying word Nirvana- which simply meant arriving at the spot where you have shed all self created pictures and are empty enough, to view the whole. For thousands of years Zen Masters whispered reality as the tantalizing word Mu or No-Thing, which we can now see as no objective reality. All contained within the eye that creates the image and then lives it. And the world being nothing more than what you spy, with the lens of your eye.
Nirvana simply understood then as being the continuous, unbroken state of No-Thing-Ness or the state within the Superhologram where the soul awaits to draw its next picture. Or not!
“Devote yourself to the Absolute Emptiness;
Contemplate earnestly in Quiescence.
All things are together in Action,
But I look into their Non-action,
For things are continuously moving, restless,
Yet each is proceeding back to its origin.
Proceeding back to the origin means Quiescence.
To be in Quiescence is to see “Being-for-itself.”

The holographic paradigm explains why we dream of people we know and later on find out that the contents of our dreams in some way or the other are related to the happenings in their lives.
'What we perceive as reality is merely a canvas waiting for us to draw upon it any picture we want.'- can't stop reading this line!

Yes, there is but just one word - WOW ! Thanks Jasjit... and in synchronocity, complementing your pointers this is what I read today:
"SAMMASATI"..
"The last words of Gautama Buddha were "sammasati - "remember". In a single word, everything significant is contained. Sammasati: Remember what is your inner space. Just remember.
There is nothing to achieve, and there is nothing to become. You are already that which you have been seeking in all your lives in different ways, on different paths. But you have never looked inwards.
Just for few seconds sit down with closed eyes to remember, to make note of where you have been, to what depth you have been able to reach; what is the taste of silence, peace, what is the taste of disappearing into the ultimate...Look in. You know the path. Just go again and again to the inner space so that your fear of disappearing is dropped and you start remembering the forgotten language...Sammasati..." ...OSHO
Empty into Emptiness
"Leaf, when it is being leaf, cannot understand tree. Fish when it is being fish, cannot understand sea.
Outside each thing is the emptiness that recieves, and fills and understands.
Be man but find not-man. Be woman but find not-woman.
Soften. Trust the Tao. Let go of man and woman, and empty into emptiness...." from TAO

jasjit, if it is the output of only your potato mind i wonder what will happen when your mind is fully active lol.
the reality is neither subjective nor objective, neither outide nor inside, it just is. look at the child...he is one with the flow/reality/god. look at the youth. he is busy in living, for him too reality is neither inside nor outside, it just is. then comes the adult at a smaller cycle scale and middle-aged man in greater. with fully develped ego/mind he creates a whirlpool within the flow, gets imprisoned in it, and then sees/divides the flow/reality into inner and outer, subjective and objective, empty and full, below and above and so on. then he creates all the socalled knowledge in an effort to again obliterate this difference. finally, he emerges beyond the ego/mind and hence beyond the divisions and like a child again sees rality/god as one, one with the flow, neither within nor without, neither in matter nor in spirit, neither fully wrapped in the holomoment alone nor fully extended alone...it is a stage of being, beyond knowing, and in it just as he himself exists, neither within nor without, just exists similarly he sees the reality...
moreover, jasjit, here is a relevant paragraphs from my book regarding how we create reality on the 'convas'... perhaps i will have to push you through the whole book in this paragraph by paragraph way lol. i am sure this way it will not fully much weight on your potato mind...in fact this is exactly what i wanted to say when i said a few days ago that i jut do not find motivation enough to write...my mind feels the weight...i think we are in the phase where speaking by the whole person to the whole person and in promptu would be easier...rather than to the words...(at quantum depths a quantum of matter comes into existence at the very moment you ask it a question or address it in some way otherwise it is nowhere, perhaps our egos/'points' of view area also like it, when the other person appears before it it automatically comes into existence nd reflects the answers otherwise it is not there not to talk of giving answers to the mere words. i dont know if you have understood what i have said but i feel it very strongly.
anyway, here is the paragraph:
******
Having given an idea of how the structures are likely to form (here read: create our reality)with the help of a dream metaphor, now we would try to give further details of their formation with the help of an other very simple analogy.
Imagine a sea. Moreover, imagine this to be completely stand-still, completely undisturbed.
This ‘sea’ actually would not be like our ordinary seas but would be, in fact, our infinitely expanded Night spiral or simply ‘night’ discussed in the previous chapter. It would be, in other words, the plenum as postulated by some ancient Greeks and further explained by David Bohm as below:
It is being suggested here, then, that what we perceive through the senses as empty space is actually the plenum, which is the ground for the existence of everything, including ourselves. The things that appear to our senses are derivative forms and their true meaning can be seen only when we consider the plenum, in which they are generated and sustained, and into which they must ultimately vanish. This plenum is, however, no longer to be conceived through the idea of a simple material medium, such as an ether, which would be regarded as existing and moving only in a three-dimensional space. Rather, one is to begin with the holomovement, in which there is the immense ‘sea’ of energy... This sea is to be understood in terms of a multidimensional implicate order....
But now forget the above definition of plenum or ‘sea’ for we would fail to imagine them, and instead revert back to our simple sea - completely undisturbed, standstill.
Now go to its bottom with a number of boulder-like ice pieces of various sizes, which analogous to our forms which are made of Mosc and into Mosc would ultimately return, are made of water and into water would ultimately dissolve .
Take some canon like thing alongwith to fire these pieces up from the bottom. All these pieces on being thus fired or sent up would create their disturbances in the water of the sea before finally dissolving indistinguishably into it. This dissolving process would begin from the very beginning, and as they would go on dissolving so would they go on changing not only their own shapes but the shape of disturbances they would create in the water as well.
Their changing shapes would be like the changing shapes of the species ‘minerals,’ plants, animals, man etc. for our level, and the changing shapes of the disturbances would be the changing shape of our universe. With the only difference that the changing shapes in our and our universe’s cases would be according to four basic forces or interactions.
Change the size of the piece to a bigger one and you would have the Universe of a bigger spiral as we discussed them in the previous chapter. Change the size to the biggest piece in your arsenal and you would have the Universe of the biggest spiral giving the end species as some far-off stars.
With the dissolution of each ice piece into water, its respective Universe – the disturbances it created – would also follow suit in due passage of time. This is how at the end of each fourth species era the fourth species of any system takes it alongwith it to itself or Mosc...
*******
reality being like the above disturbance on 'sea' only, no wonder indian mystics call it maya or illusion.
jo samajh lage oh rakh ke baki muaf kar dio lol.

Harb Ji
"at quantum depths a quantum of matter comes into existence at the very moment you ask it a question or address it in some way otherwise it is nowhere"- a brilliant, succint essential key of such magnitude that it leaves me speechless. All truth is contained in this and if understood nothing else is left to understand.
Actually your entire post is so totally clear, simple and complete in its rendition of Being (at least as far as I have reached in my little potato head that I am just amazed).
Actually for the last two hours I was just sitting in silence contemplating something and as an answer came to light I moved to the computer, opened the blog and read your piece. And voila it answered all. Exactly like the quantum matter-your words came into my space as soon as the enquiry came into my being. Bowing to you in deep gratitude, potato head and all.
And no you don't have to explain your book paragraph by paragraph-the time to complete it has dawned and I shall get through it soon for I am sure it will clarify many, many things.
With much love

Dear Jasjit,
absolutely wonderful article! i loved it!
I use a particular form of meditation sometimes which I dont know if is approved by any school of thought.
it borders on this philosophy of spying with the eye.
the steps that I use are:
1. opening the eyes and seeing the outside world.
2. closing the eyes and seeing the dark reddishness of closed eyes.
3. arching my eyes downwards (closed) and imagining them to rest in the heart.
4. arching the eyes more and studying the pharynx, the oropharynx and finally the base of the brain.
5. arching the eyes more, imagining that they turn a whole 180 degrees and pierce the brain.
6. absolutle calmness as my physical eyes see a very beautiful and Divine Eye watching the proceeds from inside the brain.
then I imagine myself as the real true eye...the Divine eye and watch the physical sight melt away.
what do you think about this method?
I havent had great experiences by this...because my practise is very irregular and shallow. but the concept appears powerful.

Dear Aachi
Powerful meditation! Very Zen in its nature for it goes to the source, the intention, the 'eye' of perception and the mind. All three are the only and final thresholds of all practice. To be able to penetrate them is to penetrate the 'essence' without the illusory realms of a hundred thousand 'spiritual' practices. I guess as you become more convinced and regular the 'experiences' will come. Having said that one needs to remember that when one has the ability to go straight to the source then the 'experiences' will be very unique and unimaginable too. They will just take you deeper into a 'satori' like silence where quantum leaps in Self and consciousness will emerge without frills.
Just to share an apt Zen saying for you.
"When you wake,
All is empty,
All the myriad worlds are Mu (no-thing)
Where does this seeing take place
The entire earth is the eyeball of a
Buddhist monk
Take one more step!"
Much Love

Just one word so far. Wow!
Thanks for these amazing insights.
